ECONOMICS & NW CT REAL ESTATE
01.25.08
As this is written, the Fed announced a 3/4 point drop in their interest rate, Tuesday morning, BEFORE their next meeting. This was after "watching" 2 lousy days in the international stock markets and a similarly lousy prognostication about the economic conditions in the US. What a bummer?
Real Estate around our NW corner could actually be a good place to have your money. Believe it or not, owning property around this part of the country, although not quite like gold, will be a good, long term investment in my opinion.
Unfortunately this statement may not hold for all types of real estate here but at many levels it can, and will.
The reasons are few, but important in my opinion:
There still is no nearby alternative area as beautiful our location in the State.
We are ideally located for many travel options: 2 hours from NY, 2.5 hrs from Boston, 1.5 hrs from Albany, 45 minutes from Tanglewood, 30-45 minutes to 3 local ski areas, and close to any number of other attractions around our area.
We have lakes, mountains, farms, open spaces, fishing, hiking, biking, boating and more. Add into this, clean air, no real traffic issues, the beautiful landscape and you have an almost perfect environment.
With limited housing "stock" at all times, values are generally retained, with only time and demand being the main variables that will (always) dictate the pace of sales.
07.17.08 IS CURRENT PRICING, CORRECT PRICING?
The ever changing real estate market has not been kind to many sellers over the past several months and weeks.
06.05.08 NOTES FOR THE MONTH
Costs are going up for home operation at all levels; it will be interesting to see what heating oil, propane, and electric pricing will be for this coming heating season.
