GETTING AREA INFORMATION IN NORTHWEST CORNER
01.31.08
Aside from news about real estate, there is often a lot going on in our NW CT corner and there are four main venues through which this information is available.
This newspaper of course, is one; local area Radio Stations (plural) are another; the local TV cable access channel is a 3rd; and your computer can be a 4th source. If interested, read on.
The two (very) local radio stations currently broadcast area happenings very effectively. They are Q103 FM, located at 103.3 on your radio dial, and WHDD radio 1020 AM. A third station is WKZE 98.1 FM, located in Red Hook and no longer quite as local.
On WHDD 1020 AM, there is an hourly "What’s Happening" announcement segment most of the time, however this station broadcasts only between sunrise and sunset, but WHDD will soon be on FM at 91.9, perhaps by March. On the FM band it will broadcast 24/7 and also bring in key National Public Radio shows, along with lots of the current AM programming.
On your TV, if you have COMCAST CABLE only, the local access channel is 6 has a bulletin board with public service announcements and events. You can also access most of this on its web site
www.CATV6.com at any time on your computer. WHDD’s web site is
www.robinhoodradio.com
Of the above WHDD 1020 AM has quite a variety of informational shows now running including the daily planets and horoscope, shows on health issues, food subjects, car and car industry topics, and more. The AM signal is not especially clear in some zones, but if you can tolerate it, lots of local information is constantly being broadcast. And, when you go to
www.robinhoodradio.com and click on the PODCASTS section, a whole lot of information is available. Enjoy!
