NEW FM RADIO STATION IN OUR NW CT CORNER
05.01.08
Check out 91.9 FM on your car or home radio when listening to your radio. That frequency now "belongs" to WHDD RADIO, located in Sharon, CT. Until now WHDD radio has been only heard on AM 1020 and frequently on the local cable TV public access channel; now on FM, the erratic static condition of AM 1020 can be tuned out, although the "reach" of each may be different.
What is exciting about it for the NW corner, is that WHDD 91.9 FM is also an NPR affiliate, the first new NPR affiliate in 30 years. It will therefore carry a selected variety of NPR programming (not NPR’S news broadcasts), along with AM 1020’s current variety of talk shows, music, and of course Lakeville’s Marshall Miles and Mike Flint who have quite a colorful morning show of their own covering all sorts of local area issues.
AM 1020, WHDD’S current programs include show topics on money, food, medical, skin sense, horoscopes, art, kids books, diet, and cars. Some of its hosts include Arthur Schwartz, a nationally known food maven, Lisa Hedley of the Mayflower Spa, who is a stress strategies specialist; Mike Cozzi talks sports; Collen Kopec talks about skin sense; Dave Teter gives a local farm and ag report, and Robin Leech. I do a conversational show on various aspects of cars, the automobile industry, driving/servicing/buying tips and more. This has been a "pet" interest of mine for years.
Now undergoing testing, 91.9 FM’s reach should make Millerton an easy NPR listen without the current reception problem of the other NPR station reaching our area. I hope you will join with me in putting 91.9 FM on a button of your home and car radios, and supporting your new FM station and local NPR affiliate in our wonderful NW corner.
