NOTES FOR THE MONTH

06.05.08

SATURDAY, there is a RECYCLING day at the FALLS VILLAGE Town garage. You need an ENTRY ticket to drop off your stuff and you MUST get that ticket at your Town Hall by its closing time on Friday to participate. IF you are reading this SATURDAY morning, it may be too late.

Costs are going up for home operation at all levels; it will be interesting to see what heating oil, propane, and electric pricing will be for this coming heating season. Will there be pre-buy pricing for propane and oil, or not? My last oil delivery this Spring was at $3.97 per gallon! No matter what, it is going to be costly to heat your home this coming season. Do the math with your annual use to "predict" next season’s possible cost. It may shock you.

Programmable thermostats, proper storm windows, and other energy efficient methods may be more important than ever. Actually sweaters may be big "wear" items for some this year.

The weather has been near perfect for the week, however the storms that are coming through are accompanied by rather high winds. Trees and limbs have been falling all over, causing some power outages.

Finally my safety tip for this week involves your automobile. Check your tire pressures; there are a lot of underinflated tires around. I see at least one car with this problem every day.

OIL REVISITED
Some of our heating oil vendors have been holding off on setting Contract pricing for heating oil prices, hoping the barrel price would be coming down.

QUIET AS A COFFIN?
The above was the description of the activity (on his home) given to me by a home owner with a house for sale in Stamford, CT.

THE PROBLEM WITH GREEN: AESTHETICS
The question of aesthetics may come into focus if building green becomes the norm for future homes.

WEATHER TURBULENCE REIGNS
Storms have been playing havoc causing power interruptions, fallen trees, and broken branches around the NW corner.

FANS AND LAWNS
The lack of rain made many lawns turn brown. They are not really dead in most cases, despite their appearance.

PRICE CONCESSIONS - MOVING REAL ESTATE
Seller price concessions, if and when 'blessed' with an offer, are helping move most of the sales currently in contract, or recently closed, for homes in this price grouping.

HOT WEATHER COOLING TIPS
With the arrival of hot, sticky weather arriving in our NW corner, cooling tips are in order for those not lucky enough to have air-conditioning, either centrally installed, or from window units.
