FALL - ON ITS WAY
09.4.08
No sooner has the Labor Day weekend passed us by, thoughts turn to the Fall. House tours and the annual Antiques Market "in the field" in Salisbury are major September events around the NW corner area. It is a great "tourists" time, right through the Fall Colors that occur every October. Many will drive around and see our lovely area.
All the real estate agencies hope that (real) buyers will begin showing up this Fall and start purchasing some of our lovely real estate properties; we shall see what happens this Fall, and for the rest of this year.
Oil prices were coming down nicely before the tropical storms kicked up down South and got everyone worried about oil supplies. They jumped rather quickly as Gustav roiled around South Florida and on towards Louisiana and Texas. As this was penned, gas prices were holding at their "lowest" prices in months.
Heating oil prices were falling also, with updates to pre-purchase pricing plans in place with a number of suppliers. There was a wide pricing range between the lowest and highest that I found during the week heading into the Labor Day weekend. Any plan with a 3 in front of it was worth grabbing, in my opinion, but I only found 1 for this corner.
Action on the real estate front during the last week covered lots of scenarios, from a property put under agreement to "active" buying plans scuttled by "failed" contracts on some parties looking, who had started deals on their properties elsewhere; it stopped their buying plans instantly, even though they recognized a good buying opportunity around here. It will be an interesting Fall.
