BEGINNINGS AND ENDINGS

02.19.09

As Winter "wears" on, there are a few of events that have occurred around here recently and it seems appropriate to mention some of them, only partly straying from the "world of real estate" as it exists in the NW corner.

In the "food" world, as Trotta's market closed in Sharon, JAM, a prepared foods vendor, has recently opened in the former Stove Dr/Video store location in Sharon. While not a market in any sense of the word, it seems to be extremely successful for pick-up lunch items and for those who want "heat and serve" dinner "goodies". Quality and taste sensations are terrific!

I am sad to see Café Tazza close - it did as of Monday this week. Business issues forced that closure, but those who tolerated its outspokenly opinionated owner, were rewarded with superb coffee and other prepared goodies for breakfast and lunches, not to mention sensational gelato, great during the hot summer months. A pizza vendor may re-appear at the West Main Street location.

No doubt, the topic/change, probably causing the "heavens" to quake a bit was the transition of the icon, Borden Real Estate into a Sotheby’s Realty location/office. One can only imagine what Al Borden was thinking as he "saw", (from above), the big BORDEN REALTORS sign come down and the big blue SOTHEBY'S REALTY sign go up at 346 Main Street, Lakeville. With the passing of this mantel, it leaves only "yours truly" as the last descendant of the former (independent) hierarchy of Realtor’s to have a generation continuation in this unique corner of New England. Besides Al, names of the past included Robinson Leech,Sr., Frank Cole, Jonas Soltis, Bill Kelsey, Orpha and Louise Robinson, Lucille S. Fish, David Minton, Janet Banford, Gertrude Durand, along with a few others. Few of the current agents/agencies have been around long enough to fully understand the true workings of this area. It certainly is not just a "List and Sell" proposition as some would think!

SOME SEPTEMBER THOUGHTS
What goes up, inevitably, for the moment, comes down, and so it goes with oil as this is written on 9/7.

09.02.10
SOLAR PANEL - A PROBLEM
Solar panels are an increasing 'accessory' around our tri-corner area.

08.26.10
OIL REVISITED
Some of our heating oil vendors have been holding off on setting Contract pricing for heating oil prices, hoping the barrel price would be coming down.

QUIET AS A COFFIN?
The above was the description of the activity (on his home) given to me by a home owner with a house for sale in Stamford, CT.

07.29.10
THE PROBLEM WITH GREEN: AESTHETICS
The question of aesthetics may come into focus if building green becomes the norm for future homes.

07.22.10
WEATHER TURBULENCE REIGNS
Storms have been playing havoc causing power interruptions, fallen trees, and broken branches around the NW corner.

07.15.10
FANS AND LAWNS
The lack of rain made many lawns turn brown. They are not really dead in most cases, despite their appearance.
