A DIVERSION - TWO NW CORNER CARS FOR THE TIMES
03.26.09
Periodically it seems appropriate to depart from a topic on real estate, so here is some talk about two, comfortable and practical, hybrid cars.
As gas briefly reached/exceeded $4.00 a gallon, along with heating oil, last August, I, along with many others, sought an MPG solution and purchased a hybrid for my business. Not a Prius, as many have, but a larger more comfortable sedan - the Camry Hybrid. While gas is now delightfully cheaper, so too are my monthly gas bills while still enjoying a comfortably competent 5 passenger sedan. Since its purchase, my gas bills have diminished by roughly 35 - 40%. This car has achieved an average mpg of between 33 and 38 mpg between fillups for combined driving all around the NW corner. Cost? Depending on options, before any trade, list pricing ranges from around $27k - $32k; currently there are Toyota incentives so deals can be made. There are also federal tax credits.
Shortly, there will be the Ford Fusion hybrid available right here at McLean Ford in Millerton - ideal for convenient servicing - and it is advertised to do considerably better than the Camry's mpg ratings, getting over 41 mpg in the urban cycle. It is reportedly fun to drive as well. Multiply the Camry’s rating - 33 city/34 highway mpg - by its 17 gallon tank size and you can go a long way for relatively little money. The same will certainly the case with the Ford Fusion.
For more car talk, listen to my weekly CAR KEYS show on FM 91.9 WHDD Radio at 11:05 AM Saturdays, right here in NW CT.

What goes up, inevitably, for the moment, comes down, and so it goes with oil as this is written on 9/7.
09.02.10 SOLAR PANEL - A PROBLEM
Solar panels are an increasing 'accessory' around our tri-corner area.
08.26.10 OIL REVISITED
Some of our heating oil vendors have been holding off on setting Contract pricing for heating oil prices, hoping the barrel price would be coming down.
08.19.10 QUIET AS A COFFIN?
The above was the description of the activity (on his home) given to me by a home owner with a house for sale in Stamford, CT.
07.29.10 THE PROBLEM WITH GREEN: AESTHETICS
The question of aesthetics may come into focus if building green becomes the norm for future homes.
07.22.10 WEATHER TURBULENCE REIGNS
Storms have been playing havoc causing power interruptions, fallen trees, and broken branches around the NW corner.
07.15.10 FANS AND LAWNS
The lack of rain made many lawns turn brown. They are not really dead in most cases, despite their appearance.
