TECHNOLOGY

09.03.09

The Dutchess County Fair in Rhinebeck ended over the weekend and, for fair lovers, it offers an extraordinary array of booths that should satisfy anyone on almost any level. For a technologist such as myself, it did not disappoint.

Two booths got my attention: The first involved one promoting a residential/small business wind powered generator, the Skystream 3.7. Using a monopole base and a 12' rotor diameter blade system, it is designed to provide up to 2400 watts of power to supply homes/small businesses. The problem with these systems is, or might be, town zoning regulations and/or site limitations. However with both being overcome, this system looks ideal for the future, but is here today. I am happy to give out the web site of a local business dealing in this system if you send me an email.

The second booth that I lingered at was one that promotes a hot water, oil fired, boiler/heating system best known as the 'System 2000'. Touted as being more energy efficient than many conventional oil fired systems, without being as fancy or costly as say, the Buderus® or Viessmann® powered systems, current owners of the System 2000 heating units seem to love them for their quiet operation and excellent efficiency. They forego complicated circuitry used in other systems and have a design that is ultra efficient in producing domestic hot water.

The drier, cooler air this week has been a relief for many, solving some of the dampness problems discussed last week. Have a great Labor Day weekend. The Summer is effectively over!

The lack of rain made many lawns turn brown. They are not really dead in most cases, despite their appearance.

PRICE CONCESSIONS - MOVING REAL ESTATE
Seller price concessions, if and when 'blessed' with an offer, are helping move most of the sales currently in contract, or recently closed, for homes in this price grouping.

HOT WEATHER COOLING TIPS
With the arrival of hot, sticky weather arriving in our NW corner, cooling tips are in order for those not lucky enough to have air-conditioning, either centrally installed, or from window units.
