NEWS OF NOTE, OR, JUST NEWS

11.19.09

The 10 digit dialing system went into effect last weekend. You now have to start your local dialing with the 860 area code. So much for progress!

A final point on the pellet stove subject, covered last week. Pellets, like oil and gas, are prone to price changes and possible availability issues. Therefore, if you are a pellet stove user, you need to be aware of, a) availability, and b) pricing levels at the start of each season, of need. My suggestion is, never be without enough of a supply to start out the season without needing on an emergency basis. Also, if you buy it by the ton, have a good storage area available.

Activity in real estate continues in the lower price ranges, mostly below the $1million level. Activity nevertheless, and it is welcomed by whomever is "blessed" with an offer, most of the time.

I continue to hear "both" sides of the line on predictions for the future health of this market and business.

A recent Bank of America release is still somewhat bearish on the immediate, and mid-term, future for the economy. I also hear that (some) bonuses are going to be on the "huge" side (for some) this year! Amazing, but I am not predicting that the recipients are going to release their windfalls on real estate purchases of any size, unless they see huge seller concessions, making the real estate a "best" investment alternative to other investment avenues. Much of it will be preserved for personal long term needs, especially the funding of kids' educations. Caution is warranted for the "bulls" of you sellers!

TECHNOLOGY
The Dutchess County Fair in Rhinebeck ended over the weekend and, for fair lovers, it offers an extraordinary array of booths that should satisfy anyone on almost any level. For a technologist such as myself, it did not disappoint.
